A taste of history and nostalgia …
Old ripe puerh tea is a category close to my heart. During the start of my journey old ripe could be bought at affordable prices and this opened up many tasting opportunities both for enjoyment and study. These experiences would help build my foundation for appreciating the fascinating character and subtlety found in old tea. In later years my interest would spread to age sheng, Liu an/Liu bao, Fuzhuan and more. It was exciting times, a time of discovery and exploration that would quickly escalate my love for old tea. Today my tea collection has grown but even with the many choices at hand my yearning for a good cup of old ripe has not receded. This became the inspiration for the “Old Ripe” A Commemoration Blend.
In remembrance of a vibrant and pulsating port city Hong Kong - “Old Ripe” represents a nostalgic memory when I walked up and down the numerous streets and alleys of HK, reveling in the exploration and hunt for memorable teas. Looking back the early 2000s was a very different place compared to Hong Kong today. The tea scene has changed but the sentiment remains. Old CNNP and Menghai TF productions make up the majority of the composition, using tea of approx. 25 to 30yrs. Brewing the tea triggers a sense of familiarity and comfort, bringing to the fore cherished memories of my early years. This old taste has become a relic of the past. The brew is TCM forward in a background of mellow creamy earthiness. The texture of the brew is exceptionally soft and smooth caressing the inner cavities of the mouth. Old ripe possesses a grounding nature that imparts a feeling of calm and relaxation to the drinker.
